Djiwa Margono MD. is a doctor, but we will not discuss about the performance as a doctor. But this view Djiwa as a conductor and head of technical development at Keluarga Paduan Angklung SMAN 3 (KPA3) Bandung. Djiwa Margono was born in Bandung 5 November 1984 from father Samsoel Maarif and mother Tati Susilawati Eno. Djiwa Margono commonly called Jiwo by his friends, complete primary school in elementary BPI and junior high school in SMP N 5 Bandung. After entering SMA Negeri 3 Bandung Jiwo began to familiar musical instrument called the Angklung. Because it has a strong interest to learn angklung, Djiwa Margono can become conductors and ring angklung until overseas.
Although he has completed the course in the Faculty of Medicine, Padjadjaran of University, but Djiwa Margono is still not leaving KPA3 which gives he a different thing for her life. According Djiwa Angklung as an instrument traditional music which had met only in 2000, but he felt angklung provide color for him. This is an unusual case, a doctor still wants to be a conductor for angklung instruments, and even change the song into the angklung well he is doing. He is not an artist but he trying to keep one of values beauty of Bandung : Angklung.
In Preliminary Concert Expand THE SOUND OF ANGKLUNG 2010 on 29 May 2010. This is the opening concert of KPA3 Bandung to get to the actual concert in europe. When it became conduktor angklung KPA3 Djiwa for a few songs, even some songs that have been arranged by Djiwa Margono. As for music Tari Piring and dance Saman in the concert arrangement by Jiwo. Djiwa Margono also became conductor for the song Badai Pasti Berlalu and all the songs on the second session, except for samman dances, because the warrant did not need a dance instrument.
Here are some of our interviews with Djiwa Margono at the end of the show, there are also some questions that we provide at a later time. We talked a lot about the Preliminary Concert THE SOUND OF Expand ANGKLUNG 2010 and KPA3 :
Mr. Djiwa, how your feel about the concert tonight?
I am grateful, KPA3 could carry the show tonight. We of KPA3 do my best in order to create a satisfied audience attending the event tonight. Just maybe there are less technically there is a lack of music, dance there forgotten and various other errors, it might be some things we need to improve in the future. But if I are very satisfied with the concert tonight, because we (KPA3) can show what we want to do.
Did you do aransement some the songs that are not areas that are not Sundanese culture. Meanwhile, everyone knew that song was also located in areas typical of the instrument itself. Actually, what you show in doing so?
We (KPA3) actually wanted to show that angklung was introduced by Mr.Daeng (alm) that can play music more broadly, by being able to play a lot of other music types. Because not always Traditional, not necessarily music abroad, but it can be all kinds of music. Angklung have always played music everywhere, keroncong also, klasic now we’re trying, now we want the traditional. I as the conductor and also songs in KPA3 modifiers are still trying to find a way to make angklung it could sound like actual music.
Do you feel that only by Angklung can play music other regions?
That’s actually one of the things we think, because we started two months ago. Actually the point that I want to try to fully use the angklung without using the original instrument. But it turned out after evaluation it was not entirely so, because there is an instrument that can not be adapted into a musical angklung. So the closer to the original concert we tried to adapt to the actual music, because it turned out different if the hearing does not use the original music.
How do you respond Djiwa of life angklung in Bandung now?
If for me personally, might be called somewhat less understood, because I was new in the world angklung. If I personally judge it was still divided between communities. This community may see it like this, KPA3 another, again different from other communities, which in essence they are still divided.
You have a compressor or other modifiers to angklung song, but you still feel yet still advanced, whether dificult angklung you think?
Hard it was not from playing, but how hard we can play other instruments well and not sound much different from the actual music. For example like this, if Angklung playing music angklung, it’s easy. But that makes it all the difficult part is when angklung used to play the kind music other than music angklung.
How started djiwa like of angklung?
First became interested when he saw a demonstration KPA3 when new students of SMAN 3 years old in 1999. But just one year later joined the KPA3 and after the concert Orchestration III in 2000 Angklung really liked the new sounds and music produced by Angklung Mr.Daeng.
What achievements have you achieved as a conductor angklung?
if achievement is to win the race in question or other conductor to beat in an event that is measurable, then I’ve never won any race or beat anybody.But there are several occasions I became a conductor leading an ensemble angklung which for me is very impressive. Orchestration concert Angklung IV Year 2004, Orchestration concert Angklung V Year 20O5, Orchestration concert Angklung 8 Year 2010 and Expand The Sound of Angklung 2008.
How many songs that arrangements into a song angklung?
I am not skilled in any musical compositions or arrangements. Lots of my friends in KPA3 is still more advanced and productive in making the composition or music arrangements for angklung padaeng. My experience making music arrangements for angklung only to my recollection : on Concert VI Orchestration Angklung Year 2007, i was arrangements Cinta di Ujung Jalan and Hanya Cinta Biasa. When Expand The Sound of Angklung 2010, i was arrangements : Music For Tari Piring and Music To Tari Giring-Giring
For in europe if still you are a conductor?
Yes I will be the conductor, but in fact to in europe should have been downgraded to a younger age than me, but because of this great event so I was asked again to be a conductor.
How long you become conductors in KPA3?
I started playing angklung year 2000, I forget exactly when I first became a conductor, I think it was just that time my second class in high school, starting from the appearance of a small appearance. then for a big concert program which began around the year 2004.
Angklung as musical instruments in Indonesia could be heard in concert in Europe or abroad, how respond by Djiwa Margono?
I think this is a great way to be regarded internationally angklung, especially if it can be played in classical music Angklung is a musical that has a structure. If angklung has been able to play classical music, it can no longer seen angklung one eye by others. The latter also strengthen the identity of Indonesia as a nation that has a culture. Indonesia has a tool that depart from the traditional music but can become universal, and this is one step to maintain the culture of Indonesia.
You are a doctor, why did you choose to become a conductor angklung?
It left virtually all of their interests, we all already know all that well set off from two points of interests and talents. Angklung dont need talent, but angklung needs interest. Starting from my interest in the year 2000, with KPA3 me through the process, until finally angklung to one half part of my life. because the feeling of belonging to the angklung although I as a physician could be doing something else, but because this call of my heart, so until now I still want to be part of KPA3.
What your message to the government of Bandung and Indonesia to make angklung more advanced than now?
My message is, give the opportunity with a very large and spacious for people who want to maintain and converse angklung. So if anyone wants to develop in a positive angklung give them a chance. If they have trouble, any trouble is formally ask for help, however small please difficulty the government tried to provide a way for those who want to develop. And the government could also monitor the positive development of angklung itself, so the government is also know to where these developments angklung.
Give one suggestion you for Bandung city of general?
Generally the people in Bandung, to always live in the spirit of maintaining order, safety and cleanliness of the city of Bandung. Any profession must always put the interests of the wider community rather than personal interests. Especially in Bandung City Government, to be immediately aware of his sleep and begin to implement the construction of the city of Bandung with a clear vision and mission. Lack of funds can not always justify the arbitrary construction.
It is Djiwa Margono one of teenangers Bandung, who wants to maintain and preserve Angklung as Sundanese traditional musical instrument. Together KPA3 Bandung, he will play music angklung in europe. What can we do to help all of that? Please help Kelaurga Paduan Angklung SMAN 3 Bandung to realize their dreams which we all dream. Hopefully, EXPAND THE SOUND OF ANGKLUNG 2010 successful.
