Balinese Gamelan collaborated with some of modern music and can make the audience scream hysterically in the main event Espose 2012.

Sentences like that’s the first thing in the brain when watching Espose 2012. As a traditional gamelan music of Indonesia has successfully collaborated with some of the performers in Espose 2012. Played by Mahagotra Ganesha, a musical group from Bandung Institute of technology.

Mahagotra Ganesha came to prominence in modern music circles after collaborating with Tesla Manaf Efendi a talented young guitarist from Bandung. In 2011 Tesla feat Manaf Mahagotra Ganesh launched debut album titled “It’s All Yours“. Espose as one of the event which aims to preserve the culture of Indonesia Mahagotra Ganesha also invited to collaborate with some musicians who perform in Espose 2012.

After perform with Tesla Manaf, Balinese gamelan ensemble this group then collaborated with The Trees and The Wild. And then when Tulus perform, Mahagotra Ganesha is also collaborating with Tulus on the song “Tuan dan Nyonya“. One of the hits of Tulus  has successful makes audiences of Espose 2012 scream hysterically. Mahagotra Ganesha back to give a touch of sweetness when they collaborated with Ipang Lazuardi when playing the song “Sahabat kecil” who has successfully made the audience sing along. This is an amazing thing, we have seen young people who are so creative but still love their culture.

Espose 2012 is the second event with a large scope organized by the student boards of Development Planning, Faculty of Economics, Padjadjaran University (HIMA ESP UNPAD). Starting Espose 2012 Band auditions on March 19th, 2012 was followed two pre event. Pre event I Espose 2012 has been held 4 April 2012 at Blits Megaplex PVJ, Bandung. Pre event II 19 April 2012 at Dago Car Freeday. (please check our pre event I Espose 2012 review here). Then followed the main event at Sasana Budaya Ganesha (Sabuga) April 28th, 2012.

In the main event was opened by 2012 Espose favorite of band auditions Espose 2012, Stone N Wood. They play blues music. Then proceed with the winning band auditions Espose 2012, Jamithology and Helluva. Apart from the band auditions, Espose 2012 also presents titik awal and a groovy group from Bandung, Juicy Luicy.

And then Sabuga getting festive, when Tesla Manaf Feat Mahagotra Ganesha came to the stage playing the song “It’s All Yours“. Next performances, The Trees and The Wild. Then the rockin’blues performances come from Gugun Blues Shelter, they are one of the musical group the pride of Indonesia.

Songs with lyrics of love Such as “Teman pesta”, “Diorama”, “Teman hidup”, “Sewindu” and more coming from Tulus the next. Next Ipang Lazuardi, when he played hits like “Ada yang hilang” and “Gak ada takutnya” successfully made the audience sing along.

Crowd audiences getting hot when it comes to the stage of The Groove. After so long they finally broke their back. The Groove to play some popular songs they like “Katakan dengan cinta” “khayalan”, “Hanya karena cinta” “Let’s go reunian” and when they played the song “Dahulu”.

Espose 2012 closing spectakuler by Maliq & d’Essentials. They always bring enjoy to Bandung. Maliq & d’Essentials played some song Such as “Kangen” “Terdiam” “Coba katakan” and “Menari”. And when they play “Untitled” the audience to sing along while dancing. That Espose 2012 one of the young creativity of Bandung, thanks and see you next years.

White Shoes & The Couples Company entered into collaboration with Artspace Dia.Lo.Gue ALBUM Voyages performances, a photography exhibition in Dia.Lo.Gue Voyages Gallery Artspace, Jakarta. This show is designed as a traveling program, which brought photography exhibitions and musical performances to various cities in Indonesia. Jakarta became the third city we choose as a place, after the program was held in May 2011 in Room Mes 56, Yogyakarta, and in July 2011 in Aiola Store, Surabaya.

WSATCC previously released an art project which we call Project Voyages Photo Album that started on 8 April 2011 to May 8, 2011. Voyages Gallery Project is a photographic exhibition project of collective memory when bervakansi which is then displayed in a photography exhibition. WSATCC goal is to share experiences and memory bervakansi a memorable and fun through photographs, also at the same show bervakansi places scattered throughout the archipelago, and also around the world.

Voyages Gallery project which is short in the end has collected about 400 photos sent in by 92 exhibitors from various cities in Indonesia. The photos show off our selected online at our website: www.whiteshoesandthecouplescompany.org, and we show in an exhibition of photography entitled “Voyages Photo Album” in various alternative spaces in Indonesia.

In the exhibition at Artspace Dia.Lo.Gue this, in addition to exhibition Voyages Photo Album Project, in particular WSATCC also featuring visual works of graphic works, drawings, photographs, merchandise products, video and photos of special collections ever made by White Shoes & The Couples Company over the years. Good work that we have created yourself and that made many of his collaborations with renowned local artists.

And the event continued with the appearance of  Manila Jackson makes a remarkable appeal, make the visitor interested to see it and make the event more festive, and after this event followed by the appearance from Oom Leo, not inferior to the earlier appearance of Oom Leo also able attract visitors, and also Oom Leo featuring with WSATCC. And perform their work to make this event a more festive.

Jakarta International Jazz Festival with Djarum Super Mild will be held again on October 2012, at Istora Senayan. Road to Djarum Super Mild Jakarta International Jazz Festival 2012 held as a pre event show of the biggest jazz concert at Gandaria City Mall, Saturday, April 7th 2012. The people are very enjoyed the performance of the famous jazz star. The show started from 3 PM until midnight.

Three common stage at the mall area are the Piazza, Atrium and Upper Ground (UG) Mainstreet stage. This pre event show performed the Indonesian jazz singers in every stage. The musicians who performed at the UG Mainstreet stage are Speakeasy, Mergie Segers & Manna Trio, Abdul & The Coffee Theory, Torong Wicaksono, Gerronimo Jazzcoustic, and others. Whereas, at the Atrium stage performed Teffrey Tahalele & Friends, Lala Suwages and many more. Road to Djarum Super Jak Jazz also showed many Indonesian Jazz musicians who really famous at the Piazza stage such as Maliq & Diessentials, Barry Likumahuwa Project, LLW, Tompi, Tohpati, Ireng Maulana, Idang Rasyidi Syndicate, Syaharani and Glenn Fredly.

This show was very made a splash of the audience. The show was successfully made them satisfied and they come from all generation. The enthusiasm of the audience were appeared with a great number in every stage. As we met after the performance of Abdul and The Coffee Theory at the UG Mainstreet stage, Abdul, Vocalist said, “This was the very first time to participate on this Jakarta International Jazz Festival and the audience very interest with this show and most of all are young”.

As the pre event show International Jak Jazz Festival 2012, this was opened for public. Free entrance were at the UG Maintreet and the Atrium stage. Whereas for the performance at the Atrium stage pay Rp. 100.000/ ticket.

70s Orgasm Club is an indie band from Bandung. 70s Orgasm Club formed in 2004, consists of Anto Arief (guitar/vocal), Rio Novtriansyah (bass), and Endy (drums). After launching an album the way of the band have a little bit distracted due activities of each personnel, but they still perform in few gigs. In 2011, comes a idea from Anto Arief as a founder the band to combine his band and his art project. And in 2012, he will be held an exhibition to his art project and launch new EP of 70s Orgasm Club, titled Supersonicisloveticated. This event will be located in a store that intense give support to indie musicians in Bandung, Lou Belle (check our review about Lou Belle here) Jl. Setiabudhi no. 56 Bandung. Not just exhibition, this event also have gigs by some Dj and some indie musicians such as Nada Fiksi, Hightime Rebellion, The Triangle, Tulus and 70s Orgasm CLub of course. Espose is an annual music event of Student Executive Board of Economic and Rural Development, Faculty of Economics, Padjajaran University (HMA ESP FE UNPAD) that have been held for several years, but in small scope. In 2011 Espose grow larger and try to grabbing more attention, Espose combines Indonesian culture with Jazz music. Angklung as the music of Indonesian culture from sunda combines with some jazz musicians such as Andien, Glenn Fredly, Jemima, Barry Likumahuwa Project and Endah N Rhesa. While the angklung is played by Saung Angklung Udjo.

Espose 2012 will be back again, still with the concept of combining indonesia culture with jazz music, but now they will use gamelan music from Indonesia culture. “Chain The Ethnicity Through Musicology” is the theme of Espose 2012 and they will location at Sasana Budaya Ganesha, Bandung in April 28, 2012. Espose will featuring with some jazz musicians such as Maliq n D’Essentials, The Groove, Gugun and Blues Shelter, Ipang Lazuardi, Tulus, Tesla Manaf feat. Mahagotra Ganesha Bali and The Trees and The Wild. Not just it, we will have Juicy Luicy, Titik Awal. And Helluva, Jamithology will be came as the winners of Espose 2012 band auditions, and Stone N’ Wood as the favorite band from the auditions. HIMASAD Volksfest (HVF) is the first cultural event that orginized by German Department of Padjajaran University student. HVF is inspired by OktoberFest (a Volksfest that held on October) that held annually in German but its steering committee has set it in such a way in order to present the mixture of Indonesian and German culture.

There are a Photo contest and seminar that held as a pre event and the theme of both events is the cultural acculturation in Indonesia. There are tens of photograph that has capture the cultural acculturation in indonesia and successfully mesmeraize all visitors that came from the contest.The seminar is talk about how to capture culture journalistically with Han Han Subhan (photography expert), Idhar Resmadi (Rolling Stone magazine) and Adhi Rachdian (BUDPAR photograpy community) as the Judges and the speakers of the seminar.There is also a German education and cultural seminar that its speaker from Goethe Institue, Bandung and German department of Padjajaran University lecturer.

HVF main event was out standing, there are several bands and performers that jazz up the event. The bands and performers list are The Bon and the Don, Saturday Night Karaoke, DM Project, Mr. Sonjaya Tanzen, Adyasa Devindra, Lises and closed by the performance of Deugalih and Folks.

One of opening act group for Bottlesmoker’s concert: “Theater of Mind” was Pemandangan. This is a really unique group. Their performance right after Teman Sebangku brought different atmosphere to the venue. They opened their performance with poetry musicalitation, “Kenistaan Abadi”, then three songs, call “kepiluan wacana”, “astronot Indonesia” and “bocah pikun”.

Bandungsearch : Hello, we would like to ask you some question.
Amenkcoy : Yes please, go ahed.

Bandungsearch : What was the concept of this band?
Amenkcoy : Its not a band actually. It’s a group. And the concept? I could say its no concept, we just go with the flow. It’s just happened. So spontaneous, you know.

Bandungsearch : Wow. We were really fascinated by the first performance. Is it a random words or poetry?
Amenkcoy : If I could say, it’s a poetry. Yes I am not used to majoring in litelature, but I’ve learn a bit about diction. So it’s a poerty.

Bandungsearch : and the music instruments was just so unique, why would you use those things?

Amenkcoy : its just came up on my mind, why we no use things around us. You could see we use plastic bag, and other ordinary things as instruments. We like it that way.

Bandungsearch : We saw you hit the guitars much.
Amenkcoy : Really? We did it to complete the sounds. You see, we use simple instruments, and the guitar was broken actually.

Bandungsearch : what exactly the genre of this group?
Amenkcoy : we don’t really like to choose one genre as a term. Like I said before, we were just going with the flow. But if its really matter, the genre thing, maybe I’ll say it’s freak folk.

Bandungsearch : wow, freak folk. And why you named this group “Pemandangan”?
Amenkcoy : We meant to make it in wide perception. Pemandangan or view could be so different in many eyes. Some see it in beautyfull way, and some not. That was our reason why we named this group “Pemandangan”.

Bandungsearch : we couldn’t find your profile in myspace.
Amenkcoy : oh yes, I am no in myspace. We were on another sharing files website. Soundcloud.

Bandungsearch : And the lyrics was no ordinary. How you made it?
Amenkcoy : its just pop up and spontaneous. We were making music. And the the first verse made by me, then the others continue it, or another way. The important thing is, to remember the chord. And we’re not only making music. We do art. and we done it in a really simple way. record it on mac.
